Dorothy Burgess celebrated her 100th birthday with a little dancing Tuesday.
Born in Wheat Ridge, Colorado in 1909 Burgess moved to the Grand Junction area at a young age.
She would then go on to graduate from Fruita High School. In the early ‘30s Burgess and her husband started Gay Johnson's Tire Sales and Recapping on the corner of 7th and Main Streets. They would later go on to open several gas stations as well.
In honor of her service to the community Mayor Bruce Hill proclaimed September 15 as Dorothy Burgess day.
