It all began in 1810, when a German royal wedding party lasted five days.

Now, almost 200 years later, Oktoberfest is celebrated by millions across the world, including some right here in the Grand Valley.

Sunday the Palisade Chamber of Commerce hosted its first-ever Oktoberfest Celebration complete with brats, brews and a German band.

Organizers say they chose to have the beer-drinking holiday Sunday because Germans always kick off their celebration during the last week of September.

Next weekend downtown Grand Junction plays host to its annual Oktoberfest celebration Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
