Grab your beer gut and head downtown this weekend for some Oktoberfest fun.
Organizers say the annual Oktoberfest event in Downtown Grand Junction offers great German food and beer, live entertainment, activities for the kids, vendors, contests and more.
Oktoberfest starts at 10 a.m. Saturday with a marching band parade and opening ceremonies kick things off at 3rd & Main at 12 p.m.
This year there’s a wiener dog race, beer belly contest, beer crawl and a special Hansel and Gretel contest for the kids.
A full schedule of Oktoberfest activities is below.
10 a.m. Colorado West Marching Band Parade
12 p.m. Official Oktoberfest Opening Ceremonies by the Burgermeister and Master of Ceremonies (3rd & Main)
1:30 p.m. Hansel & Gretel Contest (3rd & Main) Open to kids up to 12 years old. Cost is $5/child. Prizes include fun goodies from Bananas Fun Park and the Trophy Case.
2 p.m. Wiener Dog Race (in front of Hampton & Hawthorn hotels on Main Street). Call Roxi at 242-7788, x. 309 for details.
Times have yet to be announced for the Beer Belly Contest and the Beer Crawling Contest.
Contestants in the Beer Belly Contest in three areas: belly size, most crowd-pleasing and jiggle. $5 entry fee and prizes include items from Gold’s Gym in Clifton and other sponsors.
Beer Crawling contestants will crawl through an obstacle course with a full stein. The person who spills the least amount of beer is the winner. $5 entry fee, prizes are from The End Zone in Fruita and other sponsors.
