GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - A man accused of killing his friend in a drunk driving crash will spend time behind bars.

Despite pleas from his mother, a teacher, and the father of the man he killed, 21–year-old Jesse Reed will spend a year behind bars and six years in Community Corrections.

Reed was driving the night of Feb. 15 when he crashed his car on Highway 6 & 50.

His friend and passenger John Fulmer IV was killed in that accident.

Fulmer’s father asked the judge for leniency in Reed’s sentence.

Reed had previously pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide.
