To many it's just a white cane, but for others, it's a tool to personal freedom.

Thursday, October 15th is officially "White Cane Safety Day" across the United States, but on Wednesday, as a way of celebrating and learning more about its history, the Center for Independence hosted its own “White Cane Safety” event.

The Center hosted different speakers to talk about the history of the white cane, its uses, leader-, or guide–dogs, specialized eye exams, symptoms, and cures.

If you'd like to learn more, visit K–Mart in Grand Junction or the First Street or North Avenue City Markets in Grand Junction on Thursday.
