GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Halloween can be a scary time, and not just because of the costumes. The dark night can bring about unwanted dangers for your little ones.
Here are a few tips to keep your kids safe while trick-or-treating:
1. Use flashlights or glow in the dark accessories.
2. Keep your kids close
3. Hem costumes to fit your kids
Some materials used for costumes are flammable and dragging costumes can easily catch fire.
If you would like to know if your kid's costume is flammable there should be a warning sign somewhere on the package.
Ken Dixon, one of the owners of Mad Margaret's, has taken safety even a step further by postings signs asking people not to try on masks to help prevent the spread of Swine Flu.
"If customers do put on the masks we would like them to spray it with Lysol after the mask comes off so at least we can kill some of the bugs," says Dixon.
