CLIFTON, Colo. (KKCO) - Last month, the Roice-Hurst Humane Society launched a campaign to help boost their funds, but they’re still far short of their goal.

The campaign is called Dollars for Dogs, Cash for Cats. The idea is that if each person in Mesa County gives just one dollar, it could go a long way toward helping each animal in the shelter. And they’re asking the community to help them. All you have to do is purchase a paw for a dollar at a local participating business (listed below). The money raised will go toward medical care, food and general operating costs at the shelter.

Area businesses participating in Dollars for Dogs, Cash for Cats:
- Sew What! (Fruita)
- All Loco stores
- Old Chicago's
- Stacker's Sandwich Shop
- Creative Hairlines
- Bellco Credit Union
- Discount Salon Products
- First American Heritage Title Company
- A New Adventure Preschool
- Merry Maids
- Creature Comforts Animal Hospital
- Grand Valley Video & Tan
- Dare to Care

The shelter is also asking for donations of cat food and cat litter, two of their biggest needs. Those items can be dropped off at one of the following two locations:

Roice-Hurst Humane Society
3320 D 1/2. Clifton, CO 81520

Grand Junction Free Press
145 N. Fourth St.
Grand Junction, CO 81501

In addition to the fundraising campaign, Roice-Hurst Humane Society is also participating in a nation-wide shelter challenge. It’s through The Animal Rescue Site, and all you have to do is go on each day and vote for Roice-Hurst. To find them, just type in “Clifton.”

Currently, Roice-Hurst has enough votes to be ranked #4 in the state, but depending on how many votes they get, they could win anywhere from $1,000 to $20,000. The folks at Roice-Hurst say this is a great way to help them out if you aren’t in a position to give money or in-kind donations.
