GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Mesa County Planning and Development has spent two years working on making Mesa County, mainly Grand Junction, a walkable community.
Downtown is their main focus, but other areas of the proposals include creating neighborhood centers. These would be similar to the new development off 1st and Patterson, where people could walk to work, food, grocery shop, and even entertainment activities.
The plans also hope to connect the Riverfront Trail from one end of the Valley to the other. They say that would not only provide better recreation for Mesa County residents, but they could also use it to commute around town.
The ultimate goal of the plans are to provide walkable communities to save gas and make for a greener environment.
