GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Xcel Energy power officials say a Horizon Drive feeder failed, leaving 1,116 commercial and residential customers without power Monday afternoon for about 40 minutes.

Xcel Spokesman Fred Eggleston says power has been restored to traffic signals, hotels, businesses, the Grand Junction Regional Airport and the rest of Horizon Drive. The power went out at 3:55 p.m. and was back on just before 4:45 p.m.

Eggleston says the cause was a bad piece of underground wiring. He says that wiring is in the section that's the last to be replaced along Horizon Drive. Before replacement work started Horizon Drive power outages to homes and businesses were more common.
