GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - A waterline break blew a huge hole in the street in front of the house at 519 28 1/2 Road Thursday morning.
City of Grand Junction Spokeswoman Kristin Wynn says a six-inch cast iron water line in the 500 block of 28 ½ Road between North and Elm Avenues that broke on Monday broke again.
Rocks, asphalt and sand everywhere and at least one yard was flooded.
Residents estimate water was shooting into the air about 100 feet and say flying debris landed on their homes and in their yards.
The hole was an estimated three or four feet deep and about eight feet across.
The City says an apartment complex with 20 units and 12 nearby houses are without water.
Repair work is expected to take four or five hours and should be done around 4 p.m.
The city says the waterline is scheduled for replacement this spring.
