GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - A brutal beating in front of a downtown bar leaves one man dead and police searching for information.

The beating happened at the Quincy Bar on Main and 6th Streets. Police say a fight that broke out inside the bar left one man in critical condition. He later died at the hospital. Police haven’t said if they have a suspect in custody at this time.

This is the second homicide investigation in a week in the Grand Valley. However Chip McIntyre with the Grand Junction Police Department says this by no means qualifies as a crime wave. "It's probably concerning people it seems like we're having quite a few, when you look at the numbers its really not showing that," McIntyre says.

In 2005 the City of Grand Junction had one homicide. In 2006 that number increased to four but dropped the next year back down to one. Last year six people were killed on city streets. This latest investigation could put this year’s number's at one.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office says for the past five years there have been two or less homicides each year.
