GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Less than two weeks after dropping out of the race for Governor, State Senate Minority Leader Josh Penry now says Republican Candidate Scott McInnis is "the right man for the job."

Penry officially endorsed McInnis during the former Congressman's campaign stop in Grand Junction Sunday morning.

McInnis says he is very pleased to receive Penry's support and calls it an important move forward to restore party unity. Both men say their attention will now turn to defeating Governor Bill Ritter and helping the GOP make gains in the State Legislature.

"Tomorrow morning we're going to have a statewide press conference where we're going to go through a number of different issues that I feel very strongly about, that I stand for and believe in, that Josh Penry as Senate Minority Leader believes in," says McInnis. "And as a team, as a unified party we can move forward and get Colorado back to better days."

No word from Penry on whether he plans to run for his State Senate seat again.

Governor Ritter addressed the media Sunday evening saying he has worked hard the past three years standing up for families and small businesses.

"We can keep moving forward and making progress building a New Energy Economy, revitalizing our schools, and containing skyrocketing health care costs," says Ritter, in a statement released Sunday. "Or we can go backwards with Congressman McInnis and a 1990s strategy that has nothing new, no specific solutions and only vague discredited political rhetoric."
