GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - The power is back on for about 100 homes and businesses around North Avenue after a late night accident knocked out electricity.

It happened just before midnight on 15th Street and Glenwood Avenue Monday night.

Police say a pickup truck ran into a strip mall. They say the driver then fled the scene.

Witnesses say the black GMC had damage to the front as it sped off.

A short time later, police say they got a call from the registered owner of the truck.

According to investigators, she claimed someone else had been driving, and had abandoned the vehicle in front of her house.

Investigators say they are still trying to figure out who was behind the wheel.

Power was knocked out to homes and businesses in the area for about two hours.

Workers at the 24-hour McDonald's on North Avenue say they had to turn away customers until they got the power back on.
