GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - As winter approaches many of us are turning up the heat in our homes, which means a costly utility bill. There are a number of things that you can do to keep that Xcel bill low and still keep your home warm.

Xcel Energy has a number of rebates that will help pay you back for some the cost of installing energy efficient equipment in your home, plus it will help keep your energy bills low.

Heating rebates will pay you back up to a $120 for replacing that old furnace or boiler with a new energy efficient one or anywhere from $50 to $500 for installing a new qualified air source heat pump.

There are also rebates available for buying new qualified natural gas water heaters, with rebates range from $40 to $100.

Keeping that heat trapped in your home just got a little cheaper, with the insulation rebate, which will pay you back 20% of the total cost of insulation, up to $300.

Each of these rebates has different deadline dates and requires you to fill out a rebate application to get the money. Click the link below for more information.

Xcel offers business's custom energy efficient rebates. Or so they say. After researching the best energy star roof and equipment for my laundromat I submitted an application (told 10day to 2wks for approval) It took almost 3 months. I was told repeatedly "any day now" which caused me to reschedule work men several times. I had to install the new roof prior to approval as Xcel still hadn't provide an answer. Where ever I ask the my rep. for her supervisor's contact she side stepped it. When my husband finally asked he got it. When I called and left a message, the manager didn't call back. My husband called, and not only got a call back but the number to the project engineer. After going round and round, it seems that if you replace one washer at home there maybe a rebate, but not if you do an entire laundromat. At least not when you purchase the most energy efficient ones. Xcel recommended doing a new proposal with "less energy efficient equipment". We're Green, not brown!

Ask the owners of the Fruita Laundromat how uncooperative Xcel is actually being with these rebates. Six weeks after completing all the required paperwork, and researching the best energy efficient new equipment, Xcel is still dragging their feet and keeping this business closed. I for one say thanks to these people for trying and SHAME ON YOU XCEL!!
