GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - A man has been detained by the Mesa County Sherriff’s Office in connection with two attempted burglaries in the area of E Road and 30 Road Monday morning.

It happened just before 7 a.m. after a homeowner chased a man off of his property. The suspect fled on foot into a neighborhood off of E½ Road and 30 Road. He went into a house that Sherriff’s deputies say was his own.

With guns drawn, deputies surrounded the house and instructed neighbors to stay inside.

One neighbor, John Genevay, stood outside of his own house, in stocking feet, after the suspect had been detained. He tells 11 News that he had looked out his window after hearing commotion to see Sheriff’s Deputies running down the street. "We have such a quiet neighborhood. I just couldn’t believe it was on our street. But the response from the police was unbelievable."

A deputy at the scene tells 11 News the suspect was removed from the house on Eastmoor Drive and detained for questioning. The deputy says the suspect was unarmed at the time of the attempted burglaries, and no one was hurt in the incident. Both of the burglary attempts were unsuccessful.
