GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Twenty nine shoplifters were arrested in just one month in Grand Junction. Police say they've been flooded with reports of shoppers taking merchandise instead of paying for it.

This year holiday theft seems to be worse than ever.

Sgt. Lonnie Chavez with the Grand Junction Police Department says the main targets for holiday thieves are Target, JC Penney, The Buckle and Claires at the Mesa Mall.

Typically shoplifters are kids, but Chavez says what is being taken and who is taking it is changing, "Most of time we see juveniles but this time its been increasing in ages 18 to 23 and some adults, as well," he says.

Since the beginning of November there were 29 cases of shoplifting at the mall, and that's compared to a two-month total of 37 last year.
