Four hour standoff ends with man's arrest

CLIFTON, Colo. (KKCO) - One man is in custody and two people have been detained after a four hour long standoff in Clifton.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office says around 6 p.m. deputies set up a perimeter around an apartment building on Opal Court.

Officials say they were trying to arrest 26-year-old Justin Stedtfeld who was wanted on a warrant for eluding deputies during a recent traffic stop when he ran inside the apartment and refused to come out.

They say Stedtfeld has been known to carry guns though it wasn't clear if he had one during this incident.

A reverse 911 call was sent out to residents in the area shortly after the perimeter was set up, urging them to stay inside.

The SWAT team was eventually called to the scene and just after 10 p.m. Stedtfeld came out of the apartment. Officials say two other people inside the apartment with him were detained and deputies are currently checking to see if they have any active arrest warrants.
