GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - With the frigid temperatures across the Grand Valley, don't forget about the needs of your pets.

Mesa County Animal Services Officials recommend you assess your own pets' situation, based on their breed, health, age and other factors.

For most pets, dogs especially, it's best if you bring them inside, or at least put them in your garage or in a shed – anywhere warmer than outside.

If you absolutely cannot bring you pet inside, make sure you at least raise their dog house above ground, make sure it's insulated, the opening to it is covered, and they have plenty of food and water.

Animal Services wants to remind you that pets rely on us to take care of them, and encourage you to call in if you see an animal not being cared for properly, at (970) 242-4646.
