GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)- With families getting together to celebrate the holidays, often egg nog and spiced rum go hand in hand with the festivities.
Local law enforcement remind us that you need to be responsible when celebrating.
There was a DUI accident on Christmas afternoon, and to make sure no one else ends up in an accident, officers are reminding citizens to be extra careful.
Accidents involving alcohol are extremely high during the holidays.
There are already close to 25 deaths and alcohol related injuries already this year in Grand Junction. The police department doesn't want to see any more of these accidents between now and the new year.
Officer Keech says "every time we contact a driver, whether it's you didn't signal, whether your tags are out dated, we're looking for the indicators you've been drinking. Whether it's 7 in the morning or 11 or 12 or 1 oclock in the morning," they'll be on the look out for drunk drivers.
Officer Keech says they're cracking down on drunk drivers by beefing up enforcement on the roads, and state patrol says it's doing the same through the new year.
