House likely a total loss after fire

FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO) - Investigators are calling it a total loss.

A home in Fruita has gone up in flames and now a family is left without a place to live.

The fire started just before midnight.

A woman living at the house at 1033 21 Road in Fruita woke up to some strange noises.

She says when she went to check on what was happening she found her front porch on fire.

Fire officials say she called 911 and tried to get all of her animals out safely but some of them died.

The Lower Valley Fire District and Grand Junction Fire Departments responded to the scene where it took more than an hour to put out the flames.

Investigators say a propane tank on the porch exploded and that firefighters were on scene all night cleaning up.
