GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)- Families of the 282nd Engineering Company are making final preparations before their big departure.
21 soldiers will be leaving for Iraq on January 15th, where they will be building roads, schools, and houses.
As the troops spend their last days with their loved ones, they shared their emotions with 11 news.
Erin and Jose Chacon have 3 children and will both be departing for Iraq this time around.
They said the hardest part is leaving their children. Jose says, "I don't want to leave my kids. I don't think anyone would want to leave their kids."
This is Jose's 2nd deployment, but their first together. So explaining the situation to their young children wasn't easy. Erin says, "we just told them mommy and daddy have to go do the army for a little while. We're going to be gone for a long time."
The Chacons are 2 of 21 members of the Army Reserve that will be leaving Western Colorado for over a year.
American National Bank is hosting a send off for them and if you want to attend and show your support you can meet at the park at 9th and Pitkin at 8 AM on January 15th.
