GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - A local soldier is taking a break from the battlefield and looking forward to being a newlywed again.

Friends and family packed the Grand Junction Regional Airport Monday afternoon to welcome Army Specialist Zackary Mills back to Grand Junction.

Mills has been serving in Afghanistan for the past six months and spent time in Iraq prior to that.

He says he's happy to be back in Colorado and looks forward to spending the next two weeks with his wife. "I’m excited that everybody came, relieved that everybody came because during the last deployment, I didn't have anybody, so I’m definitely really into it," he says.

Mills is on personal leave for 15 days and then will return to Afghanistan to finish his tour of duty.
