GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - A Grand Junction family is mourning the loss of a man was killed in a helicopter crash.

Fifty-four-year-old Anthony Archuleta was killed Friday night during a training exercise at Fort Bliss Military Reservation in Texas according to a Southwest spokesman.

Archuleta's sister Wanda says he had a huge heart and was the kindest man. Archuleta was one of six kids and leaves behind three sons and a wife.

Officials say Archuleta was working as a paramedic with Southwest Med Evac which is a company that's contracted by Fort Bliss for emergency medical services in Texas.

Archuleta, the pilot of the helicopter, and another paramedic were killed Friday night while doing a final approach for landing during a training session.

The cause of the accident is unknown at this time and still under investigation.

Southwest Med Evac say the weather was clear at the time of the crash and the pilot was in contact with the military base.

Archuleta is a 1973 graduate of Fruita Monument High School.
