Former Census employee: Pot next door creating hazardous working conditions
Census workers claim they are experiencing sickness from marijuana grow operations that share the same office building.

I am ashamed of my fellow medical growers. Never before have I heard of such biased lunacy from people that are supposed to have an open mind! I have also spent most of my life in wholesale/retail floriculture production, and there is a whole host of illegal pesticides, fungicides, and fertilizers that could be posing major health problems to these other workers. I have experienced first hand how the illegal use of ag chemicals can make one sick and in my case, almost suffocate to death in the back of a commercial greenhouse. I am a compliant medical grower and patient, completely organic, for the good of my health and others. Shame on them. If toxic fumes, including the use of sulfur, were coming from the cannabis growers, they are liable as well as the Census managers who did nothing except take out Copelan, who should be their hero, unless they're on the take.
Even it is legal in Colorado, and illegal federally; the problems it is causing persons working there will be a very big civil problem for Mr. Squirell. Also the fact that he failed to inform the government at the time of contract indicates an attempt at subterfuge. The irritants that he has introduced do cause problems for those working there. The best thing (the right thing) for him to do is cease operations immediately, publicly apologize to those affected, and make amends for the physical problems his lack of proper preventative measures have caused.
I work there, too. The "toxic" substance was sulfur. The plants are still there but the ventilation system has been turned off.
Funny how the prohibitionists, prejudiced, and haters will make up just about anything to complain about cannabis. Such a shame. Cannabis doesn't cause any of the symptoms they complain about in the video, and what's more cannabis is anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. Jeez. Wake up America. If you are so stupid to keep supporting prohibition, then you're also supporting the drug cartels and all the other crooks and criminals (including many in law enforcement and the DEA) who make a killing - both literally and financially - from this so-called War on "Drugs". People need to wake up and smell the truth.
This has absolutely nothing to do with drug legalization. This is a worker safety issue. This kind of thing happens in many industries. Lynn and Anonymous are way off base, here. If they are causing a problem, then, like any other industry, they should be forced to take care of the problem or move. End of story.
thats why they make filters
Nothing good comes from legalizing drugs. You can use any excuse you want, but what do you expect now? Federal law says it's illegal and that's what we should stick to. Quit trying to go around the subject. Those of us who don't smoke it should NOT be effected by it.
I'm a worker there, and there is a difference between the usual cold/flue stuff and what people are experiencing. The biggest problem has been people with asthma, they are having to use their inhalers and one person had to be taken to the emergency room with breathing problems. The people working there want and need these jobs. They shouldn't have to choose between their health and their incomes.
sounds like the bug that is going around. everyone in our house has it, no weed grown there!
"Copelan says they confirmed a potent odor and that there was indeed a toxic substance. " WEAK reporting, Ms Prchal. Stop drinking the cool-aid and start asking pertinent questions: WHAT was the 'toxic' substance? In order to identify a substance as 'toxic', you must identify it. Did you ask "What was that toxic substance?" Obviously not. Diligent Medical Cannabis cultivators avoid the presence of mold (a dangerous pathogen), and do not use 'toxic pesticides'. Did anyone attempt to you interview the garden manager to identify the source of the odor? If the census workers object to the 'skunk' smell, then shame on the gardeners for not using adequate odor control. Very likely, THAT is the extent of the story here. More facts, please.
It looks like the dope smokers are all in favor of legalization and are oblivious to other issues and viewpoints. A growing operation that shares the same air system with a busienss of any kind may be liable for damages caused by its operation. I am sure others will be as sympathetic when the dope smokers are injured or arrested, or fired for using.
sounds like a cold to me. If the census wants to pay for their employees medical bills for a common cold, so be it. This hole story is a joke, just a way for census employees to make a quick buck. So to me, that makes them no better then what is happening next door to them.
wow people will say anything to get attention!
The people who are claiming illness are lying. They should all be forced to the emergency room to see what is wrong with them. I am willing to bet the '30 sick people' are all republicans. Can't cure that.
