GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Have you experience hair thinning or coarse skin? Perhaps a feeling of swelling in the neck? Or fatigue and weight changes? You may have a thyroid problem and one local doctors says there's a natural way to cure it.
It's estimated 59 million Americans have a thyroid problem. The majority of those people turn to hormone replacement or medications to fix it, but all those chemicals may be unnecessary and it could be as simple as taking an iodine supplement.
Doctor Wesley Sheader with New Life Chiropractic says thyroid problems are due to hormonal imbalance. Your thyroid makes hormones from iodine and when your body is low on iodine, your hormones go out of whack.
Sheader says taking iodine drops could naturally cure your thyroid.
"Nothing replaces it the way the body does it naturally. So we get a much better result if we can get the natural hormones to produce it themselves," says Sheader.
Sheader says iodine supplements don't cure everyone's thyroid problem. In that case, hormone replacement or over the counter medications may be the way to go, so always talk to your health care provider.
Sheader says iodine deficiencies are the most common cause for thyroid problems, because we live in an area where there isn't enough iodine in the soil.
