GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - A group of Colorado University students have opted to ditch the sunny beaches and use their Spring Break to build support for a 21st century transportation system.
The students are traveling around the state to spread their vision. They want investments made in public transit projects like rapid bus service along Highway 82 and high speed rails along the Front Range; as well as fixing crumbling roads and bridges.
"A large part of our carbon dioxide emissions come from private transportation. This would be great for the environment and to save a lot of time for everyone," says Helen Katich, CU student.
The students made Grand Junction their first stop because of the Grand Valley's very popular public transportation system.
Last month, Grand Valley Transit saw record numbers, with more than 86,000 passengers jumping on board.
