MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) - The wife of accused murderer Allen Grabe says she believes her husband was legally insane when he shot and killed her son Jacob. When asked by the defense if she believed Satan played a role in her sons death, Jacquette Grabe said yes.
Jacquette Grabe told jurors that when her husband told her he shot thier son, she said Allen was "evil looking."
The wife of Allen Grabe testified in court Wednesday saying Allen felt financial stress and believed that he was 'letting the family down,' the week before prosecutors say he shot and killed his 13–year–old son.
Jacquette Grabe told the court Wednesday that the week of her son's death, the car had broken down, Taco Bell was reworking Allen's contract as a window washer and the Colorado Child Health Care Plan had just denied coverage for their son Jacob.
That week, Allen also told his wife in passing that he thought someone from his Bible study was after him and that someone else might be poisoning him.
Thirteen-year-old Jacob Grabe suffered from Asperger's Syndrome, a form of autism. He was attending Grand Mesa Middle School at the time of his death.
Deputies with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office also testified Wednesday, both describing what they found on scene. Deputy Johnson related to the court how he found the body of Jacob with a gunshot wound to the forehead and attempted chest compressions to resuscitate the 13–year–old.
Deputies say at the time of the shooting Allen appeared, "flat."
