A big name change for a downtown festival

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. It arrives this same time of year every year on Main Street. But there is one small change to what we used to know as the Downtown Grand Junction Arts and Jazz Festival.

Festival officials have changed the name to the Downtown Art and Music to broaden the type of music played during the event.

"For 25 years it was an art and jazz festival, but this year our board decided to change the name to reflect the fact that there's a lot more music than just jazz,” says Aaron Hoffman of the Downtown Development Authority.

Typically featuring the jazz bands from Colorado Mesa University and artists such as Hazel Miller, festival veterans expect see some changes in the crowd.

The music scene may be a little different this year, but the arts and other festival traditions still remain.

There's something for everyone, and Downtown Development officials say they aren't worried about the minor adjustments to a Grand Junction favorite.

The festival runs through Sunday afternoon and there is no admission charge.
