A life-saving donation to local schools
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – District 51 received a priceless donation Tuesday night that can help save a life. Community Hospital donated 50 automated external defibrillators -- or AEDs-- to local schools.
AEDs are used to prevent sudden cardiac death. If a defibrillator is used correctly within the first five minutes, there is a 50 percent chance of saving the life. With each passing minute the chances of survival decreases by ten percent.
It's important to have an AED on site at the school, but it doesn't stop there. Staff members will be trained in CPR and how to use an AED properly.
In all, Community Hospital donated $77,000s in AEDs and training costs. Thirty-nine AEDs will be placed in District 51 schools, with the rest going to schools in Delta and Montrose.
