GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. There was a 4% increase in overall incidents responded to. However, officials said they don't have a reason for the uptick.

Even though more calls came in there was a reduction in response times to emergencies, which is credited to the fire department and dispatch center communicating better and utilizing new technology.

A major milestone last year was the completion of the public safety complex and there are more projects coming up.

There's a plan to relocate an Orchard Mesa fire department further east to cover a greater area and population.

Grand Junction Fire Chief Ken Watkins said there is also an emergency services training facility in the works.
