GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Home-grown enterprises are possible to cultivate in the Grand Valley thanks to the fertile soil, but it isn't always easy to turn a green thumb into greenbacks.

That's why the Colorado State University Extension and the Western Colorado Reasearch Center are partnering together to host a class.

The one-day class will cover a variety of topics in-depth, including principles of fruit thinning, water management, fertilization, and managing pests.

Organizers say anyone who has been growing fruit for commercial use for less than five years will benefit from the class.

"There's a lot of people interested in getting into fruit production, a lot of people starting in fruit production" said Bob Hammon, animologist for the CSU Extension, "and we want to help them so they can be successful."

The class is $50 and includes lunch. Payment must be received by January 10th. Class is from 8:30am - 4:15pm at the Western Colorado Research Center.
