GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - A local artist says people may not like his latest work, but it's all about freedom of speech.

Paul Snover says he was commissioned by a Grand Junction man to design a billboard at Melody Lane and I–70B.

Snover says it depicts President Barack Obama as a terrorist, homosexual, bandito and gangster.

He says the man who paid him $500 for his work wants to remain anonymous but has a clear message, "He doesn't care for what Obama is doing for the country and wanted to get that across to the people of Grand Junction and possibly around the country."

There's no word on how long the billboard will stay up.

Businesses in the area are not associated with the billboard and it's privately owned.

This is totally racist. I don't care what side of the aisle you are on politically, the billboard is indefensible. Would anyone defend the "artist" if he/she had hanged the president in effigy and called for a return to the pre-civil rights era? This has nothing to do with commentary on Obama's politics, and everything to do with sliming him based on the color of his skin. I want the Republican party to condemn this garbage.

I find it interesting that when people make caricatures of ANY conservitive it is funny and supported by all of you that find this billboard SO shameful. It is alot like people that put a cross with Christ on it in a jar of urine and you call it art. It is intersting to me that the small minds are those of you that will take insult to political satire of your SOCIALIST leaders but if you believe in our founding fathers, the Constitution and federalist papers as they were written, and have faith in God and Jesus Christ you can smear them, ridicule them and treat them with total disgust. Why is it that freedom of speach only is freedom if you agree with the statement and a crime if it does not meet your political correctness. Why is it that the freedoms promised to us all no longer apply unless you embrace and and bow down to the alter of humanism and socailism. I thought we were found as a Republic and honnored all individuals. As citizens of the US we all have freedoms.

No, there is absolutely no sense of humor regarding this pathetic billboard at all. None whatsoever regardless to whether are you a liberal, republican or whatever label we Americans love to use. We should behave as a unified country instead of creating this separatism. It does no one any good. The attacks on liberals and etc. are pointless and non-productive. This billboard is a disgrace and I am very ashamed that it happened in America. No wonder bad things continue to happen in America with so much hate.

No sense of humor from the liberals here, just typical ad hominem attacks. Satire has been around since the last time we removed a tyrannical leader from our rule. It will always be a part of this Great Country; we laugh at this president and poke fun at him. Why is Obama such a sacred cow. This is not a religious symbol we are pocking fun at, just the latest “Clown” the 2 party system has given us to vote on.

What has happened to Americans? This billboard is the result of a small minded person who doesn't understand the situation in our country. Obama didn't declare illegal wars, Bush did! The first stimulus package was approved by BUSH! Bush borrowed trillions of dollars from China, Japan and Saudi Arabia (that's right,Saudi Arabia where most of the 9/11 terrorists came from)! Bush didn't want corporations or big business to be regulated! I am an Independent. I won't vote for these millionaires running under Tea Party or Republican banners because I'm not ignorant enough to believe that they are going to make changes to aid the middle class. Research the adminstrations of the last few decades.Republicans want to cut out student loans, privatize Social Security and Medicare. They can't change things faster!!We're frustrated, yes! Don't feed on the lies of a party that put us in this hole.AMERICANS, DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND WE NEED TO GET OUR OWN FINANCES IN ORDER INSTEAD OF LIVING BEYOND OUR MEANS!

Bigotry is alive and well in Grand Junction. The bill board owners should be boycotted as well as the cartoonist. What's next, the restart of the Klu Klux Clan in Grand Junction? Stars and Bars over the County Courthouse?

Whoever paid for this billboard is one more example of ignorant people who believe or perpetrate hate and fear in our country. A famous quote tells us," A culture cannot fall until we destroy it from within." These anonymous groups paying for attack ads so they can gain an office are people that should scare us to death. If we're too lazy to really study the records of adminstrations and candidates ourselves and we fall for ridiculous lies, it proves our lack of initiative to create change ourselves. To expect Obama to straighten out (in less than 2 years)the mess that Bush created in 8 years is unrealistic. I am an Independent, refuse to vote for anyone because they are Republican or Democrat. I spend hours studying every record I can find about the candidates in the Library of Congress, State Congressional records, speeches and debates (even business records). Put Republicans or Tea Party people in office and believe me , there will be no change other than those that benefit the rich!

It's amazing how fast things change. When GWB was in office sending this country straight into the toilet, any criticism of him would be considered "unpatriotic". Now it's all about freedom of speech. Most of you idiots don't even know why you dislike Obama. The most politically clueless nation in the world, yet the most opinionated when it comes to politics. SMH.

I'm sure that the Democrats will handle the next Republican administration with just as much vile and disgusting behaviour. All the while nothing gets done in the true interest of the American people (wouldn't want the other side to score any points). If you love this country make sure you belong to an organization that lives in hate and disgust for half the nation and half the world. Lying is ok as long as the rich guys get to keep making more money. Buy all of this and you're a real American. Bite me!!!!
