DENVER (AP) The Colorado Bureau of Investigation says it processed thousands of criminal background checks for firearm sales on Black Friday.

The Denver Post reports (http://bit.ly/1b94fex ) that by the end of the evening Friday, the CBI had processed 3,804 checks. But fewer applications were processed Friday than on Black Friday of 2012, when more than 4,000 applications were processed -- in part due to the massive backlog from weeks of soaring gun sales.

The CBI says almost as many background checks for guns in Colorado were processed through October of this year as were processed during all of last year. Last year, the bureau processed 343,610 background checks. Through October, 331,620 applications have been processed.

The Post reports Black Friday is the busiest day for the unit that handles gun checks.
