MESA COUNTY, Colo. With chilly temperatures taking over the valley, it's important to make sure your little one is bundled up at the bus stop.

When the temperature falls, keep your child comfortable and safe by dressing them properly. Exposed skin can become numb and after prolonged exposure to extreme cold, you're at risk for developing frostbite.

Here is what you need to know to make sure you kids are warm while they wait for their bus ride. Make sure your child has head coverings- it's one of the most important components of cold weather attire. Hats that are windproof and have ear flaps are best. You can even use a face-mask or scarf for extra protection.

Layering is essential when you're dressing for zero degree temperatures. Layers will trap heat in your body to keep it warm. For a base layer, try long underwear made from synthetic materials. And for additional layers choose thick, warm clothes made from fleece or wool.

And lastly, don't forget a coat, gloves and boots with thick socks.
