GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Colorado Mesa University students involved in the E-Club were recognized at a National CEO Conference. Only four schools were asked to compete and CMU was one of them. They sent thirteen of their brightest and most inventive students from their E-Club to Chicago last week.

Five of those students not only competed, but won first place in the nation for the best fundraiser. They won for their an annual event, "Business on the Quad" where local businesses are invited to have a booth on CMU's campus. Each business just pays nearly a hundred dollars to have booth on campus so they can advertise their company to CMU students, faculty and staff. The most recent one was held in September.

CMU E-Club member, Caityln Love, said, "I think we all screamed, we were so happy and Matt went up and accepted the award so it was a lot of fun."

Another member, Matt Bell, said, "I've learned a lot about how to present in front of group and it just got rid of a lot of my nerves I had about presenting. I just feel more comfortabale talking now in front of big groups and audience."

"Just being a small school going up against the big school, we are kind of the underdog so it just meant a lot to us," said member Kevin Bell.

There were also other competitions. Four other E-Club members made elevator pitches, similar to the hit TV show 'Shark Tank'. One local student pitched his idea to a panel of judges and made it to the semi-finals. He's now ranked in the top 12 nationwide.

Students said moving forward, they hope to make their fundraising event even bigger and recruit more students for the club.
