GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Colorado Mesa University's partnership program with CU Boulder announced a successful accreditation by the Engineering Accreditation Commission.
The mechanical engineering program began in 2008. Students enrolled in it receive CMU instruction and classes for their first two years, followed by CU Boulder coursework for their final two years.
"You need that additional credibility, that outside authority saying 'here's some validation, you are doing what you need to be doing you're running a good program," says CMU Director of Media Relations, Dana Nunn. "We've had two graduating classed from that program and almost all of those graduating students are currently employed in the field."
Many of those alumni got jobs with energy companies, right here on the Western Slope.
Officials hope the additional credibility that accreditation supplies will attract even more students to the partnership program.
