GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Colorado Mesa University has been selected by Washington Monthly as the top public liberal arts school in the state. The university ranked 168 out of more than 1,000 liberal arts colleges and universities. The schools were graded in 3 categories: social mobility, research, and service.
"Giving back to this community that's done a lot for me is really important and I think we have a lot of excellent opportunities in college," says Jack Bryan, a CMU student government member.
Even students who are not from the Grand Junction area look forward to helping out in the community they call home during the school year.
“During the holidays and being away from my family I really love to give back to other families in Grand Junction and to have the opportunity is great. I mean college students, even though we many not much money, we love to give back," says Tess Matsukawa, a senior at CMU.
"It doesn't take too much time to help somebody out, change their day or week, possibly their month, especially with the holidays coming up," says Cody Andrews, CMU student.
Currently CMU has several different service projects going on including a food drive, a clothing drive, and a program for students to adopt a family for Christmas where they help provide gifts for the family. Other public liberal arts schools to make the list include Fort Lewis College and Western State Colorado University.
