Getting a product on the shelf

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) --- A local mom is proving you don't have to have a lot of capital to bring your invention to other homes.

Twelve years ago, Sherryl Kempers and her general contractor Craig Helber, were looking for a way to store bathroom supplies while keeping their bathroom clean and visually pleasing.

Unable to find an existing product, they came up with their own and called it Hy-Dit.

"It's been a really really fun ride," says Kempers. "It's a lot of work to come up with an idea and think, 'Oh yeah, this'll be easy, I can get this done,' but over time, it's well worth it."

So far, Hy-Dit has been sold online, but now they're pushing the product even further.

The pair has entered a contest called 'Get on the Shelf' where anyone can vote to help choose a new product to make it onto Walmart's shelves.
