Tuesday, Western Slope businesses got the chance to strut their stuff, and show shoppers why they should spend their money locally.
More than 70 local businesses gathered for the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce's annual showcase, with this year's theme being grand slam, to carry on the chamber's baseball theme for the year.
Everyone from hospitals to solar companies to car services was on display, with the same goal; to show consumers the importance of spending their dollars on local business.
"These are the business that support the non profits in the Valley, United Way, Little League Baseball, all of those, these are the folks that actually support the local community in numerous ways, so it's important that we show our support back to them," Diane Schwenke of the chamber said.
The chamber says buying local is now as important as ever, because every dollar spent locally turns over about 3 or 4 times, driving job growth and sales tax receipts.
A list of more than 900 local businesses can be found on the chamber's web site.
