Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) --- After pushing back a decision several times, the Grand Junction City Council finally came to a consensus on July 3rd to approve the Las Colonias Park master plan.

If built all at once, the park would cost a total of $13-million; but officials say that to lower costs, they plan on building it in phases.

The plan proposed was actually a revision of a master plan that was presented back in 2008. But long before tonight's approval, the draw of the new park was realized by many in the Grand Junction area.

"It offers a great appeal for businesses to locate adjacent to the park," said Director of Parks and Recreation, Rob Schoeber. "We have already seen that with Edgewater Brewery, they have been very successful in their few months of operation."

With the approval, project officials will begin reaching out for additional funding in the form of donations and grants.

They hope to begin the process sometime between the end of the 2013 and early 2014.
