GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The legalization of recreational marijuana in Colorado has local law enforcement and parents concerned. Tuesday, dozens of parents and their teens had the opportunity to learn more about the harmful effects of drug use.
'Safe Kids America', along with the Sheriff's Department and Crime Stoppers, presented another free community class for parents and teens.
The topic of discussion focused on teen marijuana use. One parent shared why she attended the class with her two teenagers.
"[to learn] how it could affect them on entries into college, employment applications, scholarships, especially if you have bright kids who are looking forward to college," Trish Mahre, attended the class with her teens.
The class covered pot as well as prescription drug abuse. Officials educated parents on the marijuana influences on teens and offered ideas on how to respond to those challenges.
