Coroner identifies victim in Saturday's officer-involved shooting

FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO) - The Mesa County Coroner's Office has released the identity of the man shot and killed by Fruita Police Saturday night.

The victim is 61-year-old Lewis Pollard. He was a resident of Fruita. The Coroner says he died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Pollard died in the 100 block of Hollyberry in Fruita just before 1 a.m. Saturday morning. Officials say they tried to pull Pollard over at Kokopelli and Highway 340, but he failed to stop. Fruita police found his vehicle in a nearby neighborhood. At some point Pollard was shot.

Three officers were involved in the incident, none were injured. A Critical Incident Team has been set up to investigate the shooting.
