GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Cassandra Johnson wants to go out of state for training to become a professional ballerina, but first, the 15-year-old dancer needs the funds.
"It's the first biggest step to achieve my dream and fulfill what I want to do in my future," Cassie said. "I just want to do this for me and if anybody could help that would be awesome."
Cassie, who is a sophomore at Grand Junction High School, has been accepted to the Orlando Ballet's Summer Intensive, which will cost more than $5,000 for the five week program.
"It's a classical ballet training and right now I feel like if I trained mostly in classical ballet that I could eventually involve contemporary ballet and stuff as I get older," she said.
Right now, Cassie spends up to three hours a day, six days a week at Absolute Dance in Grand Junction perfecting her skills.
"I leave my house usually at 7 to go to school and I leave straight from school to the dance studio," she said. "Dance, take my classes, I end up leaving the dance studio at like 8."
She's a dedicated dancer, her ballet master said, which will only continue to benefit her as she furthers her career in Orlando and beyond.
"Cassie's progressed a lot," said Anthony Noa, Absolute Dance's ballet master. "She's probably one of the most attentive of the dancers I have here. She'll focus on the correction and take it and take it each day and improve on it."
Cassie is hoping to raise $5,000 by May 12 to pay for her tuition, board, plane ticket and other expenses.
She has started a page on gofundme.com asking for the community's assistance in making her dance dreams come true.
