GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Holiday decorations go dark at one local elementary school the week before Christmas break when the power goes out.

Around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, Dos Rios Elementary lost power in its building, according to School District 51’s website. The loss affected phone service, so the school can only receive calls sporadically but cannot call out from the campus.

About 1,000 customers in the area also had no electricity. Xcel Energy says a fuse went out.

Workers were able to fix the problem and restore power around 11:30 a.m.

Dos Rios was running off of a generator, so classrooms and the cafeteria still had power. Operations were relatively normal during the outage, the district's website says.
