Community members took to the sidewalks of Downtown Main Street for a parade this afternoon that honored local Veterans.

"This is part of honoring the veterans and put their life on the line a lot of times," said Patriot Guard Rider Ben Carnes.

The parade brought people from all over the Grand Valley. Grand Junction resident but also Commander of the American Legion in Telluride Jerry O'Rourke said he's been riding with the Western Slope ATV Association for years.

"Ridden with them on the parades every time we do it and its a good group of guys and close to 200 members," said O'Rourke.

Members of the Mount Garfield Chapter of the D.A.R said they were happy to spread patriotism through the community today.

"Patriotism is one of our objectives we try to support the veterans and veterans programs we have committees that work with the veterans so the parade is a way for us to come out and participate with the other organizations," said D.A.R Registrar Anita Caldwell.

Everyone participating in the parade set up in the R-5 parking lot and hit Main Street at 7th street and each group was announced as they passed through 4th street.

The event lasted about 30 minutes.

"I think our community here strongly supports our veterans and its nice to see because I've been to other places in our country and the support isn't as strong so its great that we have the support here," said Carnes.
