GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- A drunk driver wreaks havoc on Highway 6 & 50 Thursday afternoon.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department, a man in a black Camaro was turning right onto Highway 6 & 50 from Rimrock Drive around 2 p.m. near Red Robin.
The driver took the right turn too fast, and his car lost traction, slamming into a light pole on the driver's side. He immediately fled the scene.
Police say a witness followed the driver to Ed Bozarth Chevrolet, where he decided to stop. The witness called 911, then waited with the man until officers arrived.
The driver was arrested for DUI and hit and run.
The fallen light pole limited eastbound traffic on Highway 6 & 50 to two lanes for about half an hour, until Xcel Energy took it away.
