GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – An elderly woman is nearly convinced to break the bank on home improvements, but her family says thankfully they showed up in the knick of time to stop the transaction.
Just a week ago, Anne Landman's mother was approached by a salesman from K-Designers.
"He was about to talk my mom into signing a contract," said Landman, who is the daughter of the 83-year-old woman.
A salesman was trying to get her to sign a contract that would charge her $9,000 to replace every window in her house.
Landman says her mother has problems with her short term memory. She says despite the requests to leave an estimate for the windows, the salesman pressed on.
"He said that they were all defective, that they were quote, 'non-functional,'" said Landman.
When Anne and her husband heard what was going on from the caregiver, they rushed to the home and demanded answers.
"I asked him who his boss was, he said he couldn't remember his bosses name. He didn't know who gave him the contact. It was very disconcerting," said Landman.
K-Designers is a home-remodeling company with branches across the United States.
The company refused an interview with KKCO 11 News, but did send a statement based on questions we sent in an email.
President Larry Judson says the company maintains a policy of focusing on the needs of all its customers. He says employees are specifically trained to look for any signal that may indicate a senior citizen may have special needs or require assistance and if we are asked to stop at any time, we do so immediately and will leave promptly and graciously.
Landman says that didn't happen in her mom's case, and she wants to make sure it doesn't happen to others.
"Don’t let anyone in your home that you don’t recognize, and if you are uncertain, call a loved one to come and be there with you," said Landman.
KKCO 11 News found K-Designers has 64 complaints with the Better Business Bureau for advertising and sales issues in the last three years. Anne says when she spoke with the company, they were unhelpful and unapologetic.

Generally, when a senior citizen has special needs a caregiver or concerned family member is present and participates in the presentation. If we are asked to stop at any time, we do so immediately and will leave promptly and graciously.
