HIGHLINE LAKE STATE PARK, Colo. (KKCO) Some local families took a day trip to a nearby lake to spend their day off enjoying the outdoors.
"It's kind of our last hoorah so we get to just hang out and just play and have a great time with the family," said Jo Stratton.
Children splashed and swam in the cool waters of Highline Lake, while parents got to grilling for post-swimming snacks.
"We are grilling some meat, tortillas, typical Spanish," said Jean Cortez. "We're grilling some pico de gallo. We're just going to eat and have fun in the water."
Boating was a popular activity with water skiers or children clinging onto tubes floating behind.
Park rangers said they expected to reach capacity on the lake, which is 40 boats. There have been more than two thousand visitors at Highline Lake State Park this Labor Day weekend, they said.
