GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Authorities are still determining whether charges will be made after two pedestrians were killed on the Mesa after a SUV hits them.

The accident happened just after 11:20 a.m. Saturday morning on Highway 65 near mile marker 30.

Colorado State Patrol says a Ford Explorer was traveling northbound on Highway 65 and a Subaru Legacy was going southbound. The Subaru pulled off to the right side of the road, allowed some cars to pass then attempted to make a left turn.

The Explorer swerved into the parking area, lost control and hit two pedestrians and a parked vehicle. Those two pedestrians died on scene.

The driver of the explorer was a 21-year old from Cedaredge. Alcohol and excessive speed are not suspected factors in the crash.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Two pedestrians are dead after being hit by a car on the Grand Mesa.

It happened around 11:30 Saturday morning. Colorado State Patrol says a male and female were hit by a car in the cross-country ski parking lot on the Grand Mesa.

Authorities say the two were known to cross-country ski, but it's not certain what they were doing at the time of the accident.

Accident reconstructionists were going to spend a few hours trying to figure out what caused the accident.

Colorado State Patrol says there were 10-15 people who witnessed the accident, and CSP was planning on interviewing all of them.

Authorities say the area where the two were hit is normally used as a parking area for cross-country skiers on the Mesa. Their ages and identities are not being released at this time.
