GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) –- Firefighters are called in to contain a crematorium fire that caused some serious concern.
Grand Junction fire crews were called out to the Callahan-Edfast Mortuary at 2515 F Road around 2 p.m. Tuesday.
GJFD Public Information Officer Mike Pages says the fire started in the crematorium. A worker noticed the room had more smoke and flames than normal, so firefighters were called in to extinguish it.
Some attacked from the roof, while others worked to put it out from the inside.
According to Page, the flames were contained to the crematorium, but the building will probably need continued ventilation, as the smoke had moved into the garage and other areas.
Page says a buildup of material in the crematorium may have caused more smoke than usual, but he doubts there is any damage.
